Date/details for the 2010 meeting will be announced in early 2010 Research Section - Unlike many hospital-based medical specialties, the majority of trainees in Geriatric Medicine do not take time out to do research. However, research is being seen as an increasingly attractive option, for many reasons, including contributing original knowledge to our specialty, understanding the research papers which inform clinical practice, supervising and conducting ongoing research projects as consultants, and improving one's CV. Alasdair MacLullich ( MRC Clinician Scientist Fellow,University of Edinburgh) and Miles Witham (Lecturer, Univeristy of Dundee) have provided information on research projects in academic and clinical geriatric medicine departments around Scotland. There are also documents and links on topics such as the reasons for doing research, how to find a suitable project and supervisor, sources of funding, and how to get your project published. 1.The benefits of doing research, and finding a project 2. Startup Grants for BGS Scotland Trainees 3.
